John 21 ( Jesus calls to his disciples to feed his sheep)

Jesus manifests to his Disciples in Galilee for the third time since his resurrection. Here in this story you have Simon Peter, Thomas, Nathaniel and two other disciples who were out fishing all night and had caught nothing in their net.

In the morning Jesus stands on the shore and calls out to them but they didn’t know it was Jesus. They couldn’t see who was on the shore calling them but they heard the call. Jesus was telling them to throw their net on the right side of the boat to catch more fish. They get so many fish in the net they can barely haul the load. John understood that the Lord was who had called them and announced this to the disciples. IT IS THE LORD! Simon jumps in and swims to shore to Jesus right away. Jesus was making breakfast for them of fish and bread. He had them bring some of the fish from the net and they ate breakfast together. Here they fellowship and Jesus tells peter to feed his sheep If he loves him.

🌺Jesus had promised that he would provide whatever people needed as long as they followed and trusted him. He will provide our daily needs and eternal life. 🌺

Jesus gave his disciples a direction ( feed his sheep) as previously they had gone to their old job and old way of fishing. They did this because this was the life they had before Jesus. Though doing things on their own they did not catch any fish.

In verses 1-5

⭐️They receive a calling : Jesus calls to his disciples from the shore.

⭐️Holy Spirit: They knew it was Jesus calling without seeing who it was before they realized who had told them to cast the net to the right side of the boat.

⭐️Faith: in faith without seeing Jesus or knowing they cast the net and caught fish

🌟servant: they followed what Jesus wanted them to do which was throw the net on the right side of the boat

⭐️Leadership: John who heard the call and acted in faith and the net full of fish told the other disciples “It is the Lord!”

⭐️Discipleship: the others listened to John and Peter jumped out of the boat to go towards Jesus. Jesus tells him to feed his sheep. Jesus restored Peter. He called him three times by asking if he loved him.

Jesus before had called these disciples to follow him and they did. After his resurrection Jesus was not physically around and the disciples became discouraged and went to their old life. When Jesus came this time he also called them to follow him and also to feed his sheep ( those who come to follow Jesus too). Jesus provided for them with fish and breakfast reminding them that he provides their needs. Left to themselves they had empty nets.

In our flesh we do not seek the Lord and do things our own way and our needs are not fulfilled and we are lost without direction. With Jesus he fills our needs and gives us a new direction to follow him and serve him.

Are you discouraged today? Do you have needs you are trying to fill but also have an empty net? Listen to Jesus calling to you and answer that call. He will provide for you and your net will never be empty again.

Lord, please fill the hearts of the discouraged with your love and grace. You know their hearts and lives and needs. Fill them with your spirit and love and provide them with what they need so that they can walk with you and also have full nets. In Jesus name Amen
